Honestly I think as a photographer you open yourself up to judgment if you get into candid photography of strangers. I don't think it should be against the law, but I also think the lines are quite blurred when it comes to what is or isn't socially acceptable to shoot in public. At public events, the whole thing is a spectacle, including the audience, so maybe that's fine? A quiet park where someone goes to relax outdoors semi-privately, maybe not? How about spouses having a fight on their way to/from a restaurant and their car? Interesting material no doubt, but is it ethical to shoot and post on a public site?

Everyone has their own perspective and has to set their own boundaries, so don't be surprised if you make some people angry by stepping into questionable territory.
