Hello Glenn... Like yourself I have not seen a difference. I dont print larger than 8.5 - 11 so I dont think you will see a difference there. When I shoot JPEGS I dont want any excuses so I always shoot with no compression (XFINE). In your camera setup I would have set contrast +1 but everybody has different opinions on setups. Not sure it would made a difference in your samples though. Im not saying your comparisons are not justified because there is a difference and once those shadows are gone they are not coming back. When people shoot JPEG it is criticle to get it the best it can be. If you cannot do that you better shoot RAW.
