Quality--some recent experience

We bought 2 slrs...a D80 (to use old Nikon lenses), and a D40X. Here's our experience. I feel that my current cameras have not been as reliable as others I used to have.

Just prior to a vacation, the D40X started intermittently sending a message...turn camera off, and on again. It refused to permit a photo to be taken.

It was checked by Nikon Canada, and cleaned. Report? No problem found. Camera was replaced with a D60 for the trip, and the D40X was sold to a deserving family member for too little money.

My 18-200 refused to focus. Nikon rebuilt it and it has been fine since. I used a 50/1.4 pre-D, and bought a longer lens for the trip.

I've used Nikon and Leica extensively. I've been very lucky with pro level Nikons and glass in the past. (F2; F3HP/numerous accessories; total 25 Nikon lenses in the days of film....Weddings/Portraits/Sports Photography. Leica M3/M4P systems)
