Camera companies and the economic doldrums

I have just finished reading a lugubrious piece in the current Economist about the Japanese electronics companies being in deep doo-doo owing to the global economic crisis. Consumers just are not buying their wares -- or any wares, for that matter.

Has anyone seen reports about what is happening with Japanese camera companies? I would think Nikon and Canon, being huge, could weather a large downturn in sales, but what about companies like Hoya? What does this mean for Pentax sales, and perhaps survival?

I don't believe there's been much comment, if at all, on this forum about Pentaxians changing their buying plans. I for one am putting off that new K20D body and that Sigma 10-20 until times get better.
