Micro VR 105mm extremely soft at 2.8

I have recently purchased the Micro Nikkor 105mmVR and am generaly very satisfied with it.
In macro it is exceptional, sharp, contrasty etc.

It is also extremelly sharp at 5.6 and upwards as telephoto (haven´t tried above f16).

What surprises me is its softness at 2.8 - 3.0. It is really really soft (softer than my 18-200mm).

Everybody sais it has a great bokeh, but what´s the point if you cannot use it wide open for portraits?

Please let me know, from your experience, if that is normal with this lens or should I try to exchange it/get it fixed.

P.D Please don´t tell me to check if it is a focus problem cause it is not.

Thanks in advance!
