So if
the K2000 is a lower-spec model than the K200D, then why is it priced

Because the K2000 is brand new and is therefore being sold at list
price, and the K200D is either discontinued (or within moments of
being so) and is therefore being sold at closeout prices. Same story
as when the K200D came out and people couldn't figure out why list
price was higher than the K10D closeout prices.

Then it should have been released as the K3000 (new generation), since the K20 and K200 are the same generation of bodies, and the K10 and K100 were the previous generation. However, the K2000 doesn't move anything forward like the previous generations did, other than (maybe) a slightly improved focusing engine. It has an awkward market placement, IMO.
