Hi,

I've installed DPP some years back and followed the upgrades.
The last upgrade has taken over my folders.

Situation: DPP is the first program in the list when opening a folder instead of OPEN.

There is no choice of "Open with" and then choose preferede options as when you choose to open .jpg with at specifided program.

Result: all folders opens in DPP instead of ordinary folder-mode.

My windows is XP - sp3 - and in danish. The picture is in danish but I'm sure you get the picture of my situation by looking at the picture.

Have any of you had this experience with DPP?

Or know how I can change the situation af still use DPP. Until now I can only get my folders back by uninstall DPP and no use the program.

I haven't seen this with my DPP, but perhaps try right clicking the folder while holding the shift key... that should give you the open with... just an idea.

Thanks for looking into my problem.
But sorry no, it did not work. The option "open with" did not show.

This should be an easy fix. Open your computer, then the hard drive, click until you reach a photo, then right click and select open with. At that point you can set the default program for photos.

Hi,

So very true, but no - DPP is still the program to open folders with.

Now I have uninstalled and deleted everything by the name DPP in registration database and reinstalled. Same problem.

I have earlier uninstalled the newest version of DPP and reinstalled an older version and then I had the folder-problem in that older version too. Very very strange.

I am not sure I understand. What happens when you select a program with the "Open with" function?

When I select "open with" and select a program for my RAW-picture the picture will open in the selected program.
By my folders will still open in DPP.

I can ofcourse right click my folder and select Open but I would rather just double click on a folder and it should open.

When you right click, select choose program and check the always choice. If you are opening raw files, you can only opt for a program with the appropriate raw converter.

Have you tried just opening my computer then tools\folder Options and checking what it shows for Folder and File folder- Mine show no associations but sounds like you have DPP associated with them- if you have you should be able to highlight the folder option click on advanced and change the association to none.

Hi Brian,

What ever I do in tools / folder options I end up with the same result. DPP has taken over my folder view.

Must be a setting somewhere in registry I just don't know which one.

Can you check the contents of these registry keys?

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\Shell\explore
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\Shell\open

...and post back?

I've exported and uploaded the HKCR\Directory and HKCR\Folder keys from my Windows XP SP3 machine. Download this and compare to your machine's registry key settings.

If you feel brave enough, import this and see what happens :-)

Brave or brave I tried to downloade your file. I'm not sure what
happened.
The import may not have worked as you are using a Danish language version of XP (mine is UK English).

Your best bet is to locate a working Danish Windows XP machine, export those keys and import them back into your computer.

Good luck.

OK - I'll give it a try.

I have located the setting in tool / folder-view but cannot write the missing information in the box. Well I can write the missing word but Windows will not accept my writing.

Thank you - you have guided me to the right place.

Here is another thing to try.
Open my computer, click tools from the menu and select Folder Options.
From the File Types tab, find Folder or Folder type and that should show
you which is now the default properties. You should be able to change
the properties by clicking on Advance. See link.

Yes, I have been there. But cannot change the option to anything else. Not even at the "advance" option.

FYI the folder thing tells me that DPP is the one to open folders.

Thanks,
Lena
