I currently use an 420EX as slave and an 550EX as master. I think about puchasing the ST-E2 because it would make possibel to use both flashes as slaves.

Wouldn´t it be better to buy the Sigma 500 Super flash instead of the ST-E2? Costs and funktions are nearly the same and i would have another flash... Or am i wrong?

Regards and thanks for your help

Got my ef-500 last week and played with it this week end. i am shopping for a st-e2 but would buy another ef-500 instead(cheaper + added functionality). Just could not figure how to activate the "flash does not fire" option. It insisted on flashing.

Also I can't understand how a master flash ef-500 would trigger a slave ef-500 with no flash(emulate the st-e2). The testing i have done involved the built in flash in the d60 that triggered my ef-500 standing a few feet away. But how do i build a setup with no "front flash firing" in wireless mode. Is the st-e2 the only option?

The ef-500 manual is not user friendly.

Check some of my past posts, I discovered a way to do what you want, use IR, but no flash.

I had two 550EX when I bought the Sigma EF500 Super. I could not get the Sigma to sync correctly as a slave or master to the 550 or the ST-E2. It would fire but with drastic overexposure. However, it worked fine when mounted directly on camera and used by itself. Someone told me that the Sigma EF500 Supers will synch correctly to other EF500 Supers only. I did not have the inclination to mess around with this so I just sent it back and got another 550EX.

If you don't have the ST-E2, get it, you won't be sorry. Amazon.com runs specials on this from time to time and I think you can get one there for under $125.

I have the EF-500 Super and ST-E2, I've used the Sigma off-camera with no problems. I'm considering getting the 420EX as a 2nd off-camera flash. The only reason I'm considering the 420 and not another Sigma is so I can use the Canon with my G1.
