Nice improvement.

One other bit of advice - get lower yourself if you're physically able to do so. Shoot at the dog's level, not down on the dog.

Now, this was shot at 300mm 2.8 but the purpose was a focus test. So, I'm not displaying it as an example of how to shoot dogs (because you'll want greater DOF than this shot) but only to illustrate how the angle looks when you're shooting strait on instead of down on the dog.
