Two things, if it is hand-held, I presume IS is on. IS moves a lens element around, and it could possibly be at an extreme position at the moment it took the picture.

However, if this is the case, if you take several shots of the same scene, the effect should be different between shots.

Similarly, if you put the camera on a tripod, and shoot without IS, is the blurry edge also there, and always on the same side?

If yes, then you seem to have a decentered lens, and you should complain to Canon to get it exchanged or fixed.

So, first try to determine if it is a lens fault, i.e. test without IS, either on

tripod, with mirror-lock up (and self timer), on some distant buildings that are all in the same distance, or do hand-held when it is sunny, so you can shoot at 1/400 or faster. Also, take not of the aperture, try different apertures. open, f8, f11.
It should improve when you stop down, and at f8/f11, the lens

should be fine at the border. If it is bad at just one side, as I said, it's decentered.
