Jason,

I would suggest you check out the Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB
WD1001FALS.
It's listed at Amazon.com for $120 and it comes with a 5 year Warranty.

I just bought 2 for a new system. I also considered Seagate because
they offer 1.5TB, but they recently reduced the warranty on their
non-enterprise drives from 5 to 3 years, so I went with WD.

Hope this helps,
Steffen

The WD warranty will be just about worthless if the hhd fails.
They don't replace it with a new one either. It's not an enterprise
class drive. Enterprise class drives cost more, but are built to run
24/7.
The HITACHI 1tb 0A35772 enterprise SATA2 7200rpm 3.0gb/s is what I'm
using, and not a bit of trouble from the four I have.

It be nice if they were cheaper, but one data hhd failure can change
your idea of what is cheaper.

I have been looking at Hard drives since I now need 2 of from 750GB
to 1 TB size. I am familiar with WD since I use their 24/7 drives
but little to NO knowledge of the Hitachi drives. In fact,
yesterday, I could not find the Warranty and related information at
their site and sent an email but not enough time to get an answer
from them. I viewed their Warranty processing for failed drives but
did not find the Warranty period as well as which are the 24/7 heavy
duty drives.
Perhaps you can advise where to find the above data and which of the
drives (at the above link) are 24/7 5 year drives.
Thanks for your help.

Vernon...

I still buy WD, but only their
enterprise class hhds like the Raptors.

Thank you. I also received a reply from Hitachi Support last evening

Your welcome. Hitachi gives very good support, and US based phone support. Hard not to like them and their products.
