d700 and two primes strategy

If I go out with one lens it's either the 50 1.4 or the 28-105. I don't much care for the slow zooms but an old 70-210 was only £40 second hand - that's a cheap way of getting to 200 at f4. I'd like a 70-200 for when I have to shoot portraits at various framings, which is what I do for a living (to make paintings from the photos) but all I could afford after the camera was an 85 1.8 which I love. That and the 50 were my only two lenses for the first couple of months - the zooms were so cheap I couldn't resist, and in 'normal' light they're fine enough (and the 28-105 is small and light)
