Both the D3 and D3X shots used the same lens and we're comparing the
same crop in both cases. Whatever advantages and disadvantages there
are apply equally to both. It's a fair apples to apples test of the
D3 vs D3X.

If the Nyquist frequency of the lens matches the resolution of the d3 sensor but NOT the d3x, then the lens is the limiting factor and the d3x image will suffer. An even playing field is reached when the lens can out resolve or at least match the sensor of both cameras. If there are focusing errors as well, then both cameras are really handicapt.
