You can get close, such as Nikon D40 & D60 or Sony A200 and A350. But I get the sense of what you say, comparing two cameras you don't want to demonstrate a bit of theory is less interesting than comparing two cameras you might be interested in. The problem is, a lot of people seem to want to make decisions on the basis of 'figures of merit', and some of these 'figures of merit' don't mean what their proposers say they do.
