I decided to go to a girls basket ball game with a fellow photographer yesterday and ended up coming out very very surprised.

First off it was my first time ever shooting basketball, or shooting in an arena with my pentax gear. The lighting impressed me, I shot a majority of the images at 1100-1600 iso and 1/500th at 2.8 with the 50-135mm. I expected the lighting to be much worse.

Also I really expected the pentax to do just horribly especially in comparison to my friends pair of 40Ds that I was shooting with. He had 2 40Ds with a 70-200 2.8 IS and a 300 F4. I was going to take my k10d and k20 but decided to just take the one.

The camera was fast, and consistent, it easilly was as fast (focusing) and more accurate than the 40D. When the 40d would burst the sound would almost make my pentax feel like a toy, but the results speak for themselves.

I am actually a K-State student, but security came up and told us we could not shoot during game play with our telephoto lenses, I personally blame that darned 300 F4 that kind of gave us away lol. Anyhow I didn't get to shoot much of K-state players. I shot around 100 shots and about 80% of which were in focus (only one shot i will miss). The toughest part were the signs in front of the press boxes, they are very bright and the camera loved to focus on them and expose for them.
