Hi Folks, i know, that the only way for answering all the questions is a review by phil !
Thats what I mean, and I'm still waiting, waiting ............

Seems to me the D100 has more user problems than other problems. I have used two samples and they both performed flawlessly before I returned them (I am a reviewer). The only problem I had was sometimes trying to figure things out before I read the manual. I can recommend that warmly - reading the manual. Don't listen to complaints by people who didn't read the manual, didn't use the camera or who believes the camera takes the pictures, not the photographer.

I am sure Phil will give us his findings with his usual high standard. I remember a few months ago that som Nikonians and Canoneers were trying to insult him for being paid by Canon when he said that the EOS-1D and the D60 had advantages to the current Nikons. Now several people more or less thoughtlessly imply that he's paid by Nikon. I guess when Fuji comes, they will pay him, as Contax will and Sigma if they ever ship.

Strange, how reviewers tend to like the latest camera in a technological race where every half year leapfrogs what was done in the past. Maybe we actually are telling the public about the digicam evolution as we observe it? Maybe we utmostly are paid by our readers, because they return over and over again?

What about yourself? Are you working for charity? Who pays you?

Regards, Toralf

I have said this before, when you get where Phil got (as an opinion leader)

you MUST live up to it. "I will publish it when I am ready and not before", O boy that is not a reply; that sounds like a 5year-old.
Other reviews pending? O no.

With all the fuzz around the D100 (AND the S2 showing its virtues), the ONE thing Phil had to do was to analyze both machines.

Sad, sad; we HAD a guru.

A quality product is almost always worth waiting for. Rush something that's not ready for release, and you get things like the Cadillac V-8-6-4 variable displacement engine (OK, I'm from Detroit ;) "You rugh a miracle man, and you get a lousy miracle" - Miracle Max.

Phil, thank you for running this site, basically out of the goodness of your heart. I've been part of enough similar forums to know that meger financial compensations (like your ColorVision deal) don't begin to offset the 100 hours a week that can be sucked out of your life by the black hole of a major online community. Most of us here wouldn't give up so much of our lives for it, but some sure are willing to tell you how to run it ;)

It's an incredibly valuable resource, and I feel privelaged to be able to use it.

Ciao!

Joe

A agree 100%. Phil is the cream at the top of the bottle of reviewers.

His is the first and sometimes only site I check out when I have a question.

Thanks too to people like Thom Hogan and Mike Cheny for contributing their knowlege to the Forums.

That said. I'm leaning towards getting the S2, waiting for Phils review of this and D100 to be sure. If I do end up getting the S2 then I am going to support Phil by going through State Street Direct.

So what gives here? IF Phil comes out with a positive review you buy the D100? If he poo-poos it you don't? What sort of nonsense is that?

I bought a D100 because I have Nikon lenses and wanted a digital SLR. The D1x/h are too expensive for my pocketbook so I scratched them off of the list. Frankly, I didn't even consider the Fuji S2 because I've had excellent experiences with Nikon cameras in the past. I have my DSLR now. Today I filled up two 256Mb memory cards with very nice images from a car show in Orange, CA. The D100 performed flawlessly; better than expected, actually. I'd say a couple months down the road I'll feel very comfortable with this wonderful camera. I didn't need Phil to tell me how well this camera works. I plunked down my two grand and proved it to myself.

Is this the way some of you shop for cars, household appliances or clothing? You need somebody to tell you whether or not to make a purchase? Good heavens ...

Dear Robert,
I am very happy for you and envy your capacity to take your own decisions

without consulting stupid things like actual behaviour and true specs on cameras. The problem with me is that first I do not trust the manufacturers and second I do not have the capacity or time to make tests

that will really show me what is resulting under various conditions from the camera.

Regards.

Raul, my post was not directly only at you but since you responded I will ask whether you've read Phil's Preview of the D100? If not I suggest you read it. After reading it do you expect Phil to reverse his opinion on the D100 in his Final Review? He gave the beta D100 high marks and very favorable comparisons to a production D60.

I have a feeling most of the fence sitters haven't looked at Phil's Preview yet. I mean do some expect the final production model to get worse?

Bob

ps. Wish you all the luck with your future purchase, Raul. Which ever camera you decide on buying ... happy shooting.

I really started to think this more and more the past two weeks...
I mean do some expect the final production model to
get worse?
To anyone with eyes, it's obviously gotten better in two major ways lower noise and more accurate color, but it will take phil's (or daves at IR) review to verify my subjective view on this so far.

I ain't sweatin' nights over it.
