Coming up: Moon &

OK, night sky shooters, there's a real good one coming up!

According to Sky & Telescope magazine's online site:

The Moon an the two brightest planets - Venus (brightest) and Jupiter (second brightest) will be staging a real display in a couple of days.

It doesn't mention it on the page which comes up online, but their paper magazine mentions that on December 1, at dusk, the Moon and those two planets will be very close to one another - ideal for photos.

And for Europe they say that sometime during that evening, the brightest planet - Venus - will slip behind the moon for a while - great fun for photographers!

Remember - exposures should be very short: these are bright objects; don't expose for the dark sky. The moon is a desert in very bright sunshine, so expose accordingly: as if you were in the desert at noon.

Any exposure over 1/2 second will be blurred by the Earth's motion, and that's a long exposure for this sort of shot.

Please post your results!
