The shutter sound would be most annoying to audience members close by you and less annoying to audience members seated further away, but a flash would be annoying / distracting to everyone in the hall.

I second the suggestion of trying to find out (for future shoots) if you could take shots of the little girl after the performance, posing as if she was playing.
