I am puzzled by some of the messages I see on this forum. More than
4,000 pictures taken WITHOUT exposure, ISO, AF, Freeze, batteries or
other glitches/issues.

It doesn't really seem like a puzzle to me: There are some units that are simply defective. A certain failure rate is found in all products, from shuttle crafts to bricks.

I think the Nikon quality is very good, but nobody is perfect. There is always the issue of end-user error, and I don't think that forums like this will give a reliable view of quality control (or success) for products.

I will say this: Nikon support was very helpful the few times I delt with them.
