And that's essentially the comparison you're making. A $500 body
against a $5000 one. Taking nothing away from the D3, as it's a
great camera, most of us are still:

a) Limited more by our skills than our equipment.

There's a place for everything and that's why people even carry phone
cameras... but to say that a fourthirds can do everything a aps-c/FF
can do is just plain wrong.

And to say that the smaller sensor isn't a viable option is just plain wrong. You seem to be shooting a smaller format as well. I shoot 4/3 because it suits me well. There are times that the 35mm FF models would be nice (bad light) but the DOF thing is a non issue for me. I'm looking to stopping long lenses down to get DOF as light allows. Why carry something with twice the focal length when no benefit is realized from the extra hassle?

b) Not so rich that the $4500 price difference between those two
cameras couldn't solve a problem or two more than it creates.

I think you got the numbers mixed up. A FF camera is not $5000. Get a
5D for less than 2K and a $50 50mm 1.8 and that's heaps of FF fun...
unfortunately, with Oly you can't match that with any amount you're
ready to spend.

I shoot alot with the 50-200. I shoot in rain and snow. I shoot 100% handheld in some cover and terrain that makes walking difficult. In other words, I shoot in conditions that the 5D cannot function, even if you spent the big bucks for a lens that would compete with the 50-200's FOV range. Different tools for different jobs and different tastes.

And if money is no object, why not go Red? Soon $55,000 will get you
an enormous sensor that you can configure just about however you
want. At which point, the D3 (and every other FF DSLR), will become
just a toy.

That's just impractical gear-head talk...

And your comments were????
