What is it about photography - and specifically digital photography - that seems to provoke such unpleasantness? Surely we are all here to share and learn - life is tough enough without looking for arguments?

Go roast me!!!

All forums and messageboards have their "trolls" and "shills". Basically just "individuals interested in disrupting the flow of messages."

See:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&rls=en&hs=EfS&q=trolls+shill&btnG=Search

The thread you are pointing to seems to me a pretty obvious trolling bait. And it is infact quite instructive reading from this point of view :-)

We all must learn to live with this. The best answer is not to confute trolls, but just to post and contribute to interesting threads where we can share our own knowledge. That's the reason one should always avoid answering potential trolls.

In fact trolls and shills starve and disappear (or move back to other forums and messageboards) whenever we don't feed them.

Hi Sue,

Are you refering to the thread I OP here:
http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1033&message=29768285

You'd better watch out, lass... LOL... "Roasted Sue" could be on the menu :p
(I'll have mine rare thank you! ;-)

I'm not so sure photography, or digital photography is the motivation for online attacks. I could go into depth, but no need to sully your thread with the reactions I believe may come. Besides, life is too short to place much importance on others approval.

Have a good weekend

I strongly believe that it is 'techno-geeks' who see the digital camera as a toy rather than a tool trying to make up for their inability to create a good photo. They seem to be the most likely posters to start being abusive.

When they are being abusive ask them to share a photograph (other than a test shot) and see what happens... ; )

Ah love, could you and I grasp this sorry scheme of things entire, would not we shatter it to bits and renew it nearer to our hearts desire.
