Yeah, it would have been much better to get the The Spinning Beach Ball of Death (SBBOD) and then a system freeze, like you would on a Mac.

Beach ball, huh? We refer to it as the Pinwheel of Death in my office.

To the OP: Based on the error message, this looks more like sloppy programming rather than a Windows problem. Even so, it makes for a funny photo. It reminds me of the time I went to the MSN website circa 2003 and the only part of the page that loaded was the "Help" link.

To be fair to Microsoft ... an Apple or Linux machine will throw errors if the programmer doesn't know how to check the size of an array before iterating over it too ;)

Acutally it might blow up less cleanly than a dialog that isolates it to the program.

Much of Microsoft's bad rep is attributed to their own mistakes, but I'd say at least 1/2 of it is from other people's poorly written code breaking, like teh example above.

Disclaimer: I'm not a MS shill, but am a Software Architect at very large company. I specialize in Java and am no Microsoft fanboi, but I do have to work with C# from time to time.

Disclaimer for Disclaimer: That was just incase someone noticed this was my second post and questioned my motives ... a favorite thing to do on other sites like .

Would you put the safety of your passangers in the capable hand of
windows? ;-)
Based on these shots I most certainly would. Notice that windows is still running, even though the program contained a bug that would let lesser operating systems crash.

Too bad the authors of that program weren't as capable when writing subway software... ;)

But Ken Rockwell says that Macs never crash. LOL!
I suppose that depends on your definition of "crash". They do lock up and resist all attempts at input (even the Mac equivalent of Ctrl-Alt-Del usually doesn't work), requiring a hard reboot. That said, I've been using a newer MacPro every day (except weekends) for the past 10 months for heavy Photoshop work, and it hasn't yet crashed, locked up, etc.

Windows ME was the last time I remember having a system lockup or operating system crash with Windows. Haven't used Vista, though (just 2000 and XP).

It caught this application problem pretty quick I think. Don't get me wrong, I am not one to brag about Microsoft and their antics, but sometimes they get it ok. I may have to change my mind when they quit supporting xp completely - just don't think I could get along with vista - I use too much old stuff. Bought an extra new one with xp just to have in waiting.

Flew at the weekend.

There was an error message (Windows) on the departure boards at Heathrow and another one on the way back at Schiphol.

didn't take a photo
