Normally, increasing exposure time 2 stops or so doesn't increase the
noise much.
A correct exposure at 1/8 or 1/30s have about the same SNR.

Especially as SNR is usually not a problem anyway at these exposure times.

I agree that it it better to expose longer than using higher ISO for SNR, but that's not always an option.
