DP1 in Iceland

You have nice photos, i like more than pm hdr. Photomatix made a lots of artifacts for my eye. You have to care about the under and overexposed pictures, because the signal at more than +-1 are really distorted(especially with bayer cameras). Boris do the job very good, but i think its no credit for pm, its credit for Boris. :)

Cheers!

I am not a fan of HDR but these are great. I am also happy to see you did these with the DP1, just might have to try it myself.

Beautiful shots Boris.

Care to make any comments about the 5D vs DP1? I had both for a while as well and ended up selling the 5D because I needed a new roof but my assessment is that the dp1 is the equal of the 5D up to iso 400 and in the focal length range of 20-30mm. I compared it to shots I took with a 21mm distagon on the 5D and they are a lot closer than one might imagine. The distagon of course is the premier 21mm ever made and is sharp across the image from f2.8 up but it is also a $2500 lens and that is a used price. Originally it was around $1700. A new model is forthcoming but I question whether it will be as good as the old.

For prints up to A3 there is in my opinion no big difference between the 5D and the DP1. For larger prints (for example A2) I prefer the 5D.
But, what I really like is the size and weight of the DP1.

Last week I ordered another DP1, planning to leave the 5D at home on my next trip (to Thailand). The second DP1 will then be my backup-camera.

By the way I can't say anything about the performance at higher ISO-values, because I nearly always use ISO 100 and a tripod on both cameras.

Could you please let us know what type of tripod you use with the DP1? Is it the same one you use with the 5D? Thanks for the info and great photos!

In Iceland I used my biggest tripod, because of the strong wind there. The combination of the huge Gitzo 1548 (with Burzinsky-Head and Linhof Quickfix II) with the small DP1 looked quite funny.

Normally I use a Gitzo series 1 tripod (with acratech head) with my DP1 and sometimes a Gorillapod SLR-Zoom.

Very nice, although I wonder about the need for HDR with the DR of the X3 with SPP.
The glacial ice on the beach by itself is almost unworldly unique.
Great work.

did you "zone them" or developed "as a whole" in the Sigma RAW developer? (I am assuming they are RAWS, correct me if I am wrong).

I'm not sure, if I really understand your question. I know the term zone only in connection with the exposure, like in the zone system used by Ansel Adams. But this has nothing to do with the development of a digital file.

Yes, I always use RAW. Some of the files (the last ones) are just converted with SPP. The other ones are HDR-pictures processed with Photomatix.
I hope this answers your question.

Sort of yes. Thanks for the reply. Sorry for the term, by "zoning" I mean dodging/burning selectively like say the sky burn it a bit, independent from the ground, etc.
