The specific discussion in this particular case is perspective. FF and crop cameras each have their advantages and disadvantages. The fact that no-one trades 'down' is probably more influenced by FF cameras being more expensive, not the relative merits of the sensor size. FF does have advantages, without question - perspective just is not a factor.

BTW - my film cameras were FF (well, I did have a half frame once too for that matter), so in effect I traded 'down', and what I lost in the trade was unimportant to me. For what I do, given that I have a lens that goes to 10mm now, I have no reason to go FF personally. For others who shoot different subjects/styles, crop cameras might be unacceptable.
