Some 450D test shots.

Let me say right up front that this is not a complaint
or a claim of any sort of defect. I am new to this camera
and am experimenting and taking test shots to become
familier with it. I am purposely testing the "limits" so
I can better use the tool rather than "prove" any sort
of problem.

That said, the following two shots of pond surface
growth were taken moments apart with the same settings.

Lens is: Canon EF 28-105 f/3.5-4.5 II USM Zoom

My take is that this is just the limitation of focus
technology at the current state of the art and price
point, that the mechanism can and will have problems
with a lack of texture at the sample point. This
is pointed out in the manual.

Another photo that shows the pontential of the
camera / lens:

Sure, with a $3000 camera body and $2500 lens there
would be better results under many extreme circumstances,
but this seems like a lot of bang for the buck to me.

Comments are of course welcome
