So, what does that have to do with the quality of photography? Sounds more like the quality of some photographers who are more gadget oriented than photo oriented. No?

I don't that that's so. Looking at Flickr, I can see many fantastic photography by photographers who use all sorts of photographic equipment that's not cutting edge.

I think the average is getting better, and the bar is being raised at the same time. Cameras let us do better work than we ever have. We just have to avail ourselves of the advantages these cameras and lenses offer us.

I just got a Nikkor 14-24 2.8 today. It's an awesome lens. I can't wait to get out and put it to the test! This lens in my hands will produce better quality images than my 17-35 did. Me being the same photographer means I'll get better photos technically, so better photos on average.
