Specifications don't mean a thing without performance...

...Nikon's 51-point, along with being smart enough to distinguish a subject by color as well thanks to the 1005-pixel RGB meter, does a great job tracking subject throughout the frame despite having the cross sensitive pixels concentrated at the center. In fact, only when it comes to focusing a low contrast, static subject at the edges of the frame do you find any glaring weaknesses in Nikon's 51-point AF array. Do you think so many sports and PJ shooters would be using bodies with this AF system if it wasn't a great performer?

Just making sure we keep sight of practical realities amid all this talk of specification. As the saying goes, it's not what you got but how you use it. Nikon makes exceptionally good use of its single-line sensors in the Multi-CAM 3500 AF module.

conventrate all their 15 cross point in the centre.
