Who regretted getting a 40D during last month period?

I believe you guys are missing the big point of my post. The point is, the
jump is too great to be ignored. And this is pushing our 2nd hand (resell)
value next time.

10D-20D-30D-40D ----> I don't find remarkable differences
50D ---> now this is a big jump in every feature :(
And while i am waiting i will try some photography now and then.
40D is a good machine for that !

for those who have problem free ones ..glad to hear that it has worked for you.

mine has been a frustrating proccess. almost a year without resolution. presently Canon has the camera and several of my lenses (for the past couple of weeks). they have been very polite and friendly to deal with. just cann't take a picture with platitudes.

I hope that this time I will get satisfaction ...

I'm one of them and I feel the buyer remorse. I really want
the in camera focus adjustment. Digic 4 is a plus and VGA LCD
is important too.

I wouldn't get upset about rumors. Only by FACTS. And to date we have
no facts about the 50D.
Fact: Canon's China website had a page on the new 50D sitting in space without any links to it, but some enterprising individual from Fredmiranda.com's forums "went digging on their site, and found" the active page on Canon's site.

http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/679656/0

Then Canon China took the page down, but not before people save the html for posterity, whereupon it was translated.

So you might feel these aren't facts, but this type of thing has haoppened before. Not only that, but the specs match up with info people have posted recently, like the pro sports photographer who posted here recently with much the same info he got from his dealer.

First was the ridiculous thread starter, now the even more ridiculous claim that resale value is going to tank. I paid $860 for the 40D a month and a half ago. When I want to upgrade to a 50D or 60D or Mark III, my camera will still be worth north of 50% of what I paid for it. Look at the used price of a 30D. Try that with any other electronics (I'm in the business).

This forum makes me laugh, and cry most times. I think I'll stick to the threads about actually being a photographer instead of wasting time in the "The next thing is going to be the best!" " Canon stinks" stuff. Total waste of my time.

Again, you have missed the main point. The reason the resell value is going
to tank is because the feature jump is too big.

10-20-30-40D --> no biggie here...

--> 50D now this is what I called real upgrade.... believe me..
resell value is going to tank 50% this time.

A month ago you could have gotten the 40D for $899 if you shopped carefully. Anyone who cannot get good results from that camera won't get any better results from an unannounced 50D that will certainly cost hundreds more. Care about your photos, not the tools whose features you probably have not gotten the most out of (and potentially might never).

I don't believe you.

It's more MP, focus tuning, HDMI output and not much more. Nice features, but not barnburners. If the price of used 40D models does drop its because neurotic gearhounds are selling off because they think new equipment will improve their photos (and for the most part they'd be utterly wrong).

Ok skippy....didn't miss your point at all. You are simply wrong.

The 10D is still $300 and there is a much bigger leap from the 10d to the 40d than the difference between the 40d and 50d. Cameras don't lose much value. If you want a 50d, sell your 40d. You'll get good money for it with that few of shots on it.

For me, I'm too busy taking photos to worry over all this nonsense. I'll guy a new body in the future....and then someone will tell me I should have waited for the NEXT thing, or I should have bought a Nikon...I'll laugh then to as it seems that they..and you..have missed the point of being a photographer. Have fun with your self induced angst.

ok. I guess you've gave me some good reason to sleep better tonight and continue shooting instead of harping over some unnecessary angst... LOL

I really wonder why people are ready to pay as much as they do for used photos equipment.

After shooting with a 20D for three years, I bought a 40D in June during the $200 rebate. I am very happy with the 40D and have no regrets at all.

There will always be new cameras coming out with new or better features. That's the inherent nature of the industry.

I don't know why they do but i'm glad the market exists. I can buy a lens and try it for a couple months , then resell it for almost what I paid for it. It works out to be cheaper than it would have been to rent it for a couple months!

I have had mine for 11 mos also. I agree that there is a lot to learn & do with this camera. I am enjoying mine & don't plan to upgrade. An upgrade doesn't make my camera less than it was when I bought it. I prefer to enjoy it rather than brood about what someone else has or I don't have. I wish luck & happy shooting to those who upgrade or change equipment, but I don't intend to allow there enjoyment make me unsatisfied with what I have. I would rather have more glass if I wanted to spend money.

One day I'll learn how to post photos. I am 61 & technically challenged.

I got mine 2 months ago. I have no regrets. The biggest deficiency on the 40D , which interferes with my ability to capture sharp images, is that it has only 9 points. The other "stuff" is nice but I can live without it.

I may be, and probably am, completely wrong.

Hi

I would like to see the great jump in IQ first - mp jump from 10 to 15 does not have very much meaning to me . I have IS lenses - in camera image stabilizations importance ??. Face detection ?

But

Ok! if the 50D is really a big step in real image quality (especially DR + high ISO noise) it can irritate some. Very difficult to believe that it could be much better than pro series XD. And for example 5D is not really much better than 40D.
I have enjoyed my 40D already for 10 months - worth the money.

And! see the tests first - it can also be a disappointment!

If the information on the Chinese Canon site was true then 50D would be an upgrade of similar magnitude as, say, 30D-> 40D upgrade, no more no less. More pixels are always welcome (as long as they don't influence high ISO performance), higher ISO speeds are also welcome (as long as noise levels are kept low), and higher LCD resolution is also good to have. Unfortunately these features are nothing that can make anyone a better photographer.
