Try the 28-105 before buying it

Yesterday I returned a new Nikon 28-105 after some extensive testing side by side the 24-120 vr and the Tamron 28-75 f2.8. Actually I needed an alternative lens to the 24-70, which is too heavy for "casual use" (sometimes I do not want to carry all that weight).

This 28-105 - as I told, brand new out of the box - had visible fuzziness at 50 mm in the right third of the frame and at 70 mm in the left third. Fuzziness in both cases disappeared from f8.

Also in view of vignetting and corner softness (much less that the 24-120 though), the 28-105 really is a f8 lens on the D700.

Regards,

M

And would supplement it with a 2nd hand 28-105 (and maybe 50/1.4 +
85/1.8)
