Re: prime vs zoom

Outside of most of the arguments presented so far, I look to primes for a size advantage. Particularly, the non-L Canon primes. I like the size/weight/handling of the smaller Rebel-series and the 50/1.8. I can almost slip this in a pocket. I am looking at the 24/2.8 and 28/2.8 for wider at about the same size. I would probably leave the small lens at home if going on a trip where I would take other lenses from my kit. But for squeezing the camera in with my laptop on a business trip, or just not wanting to carry around even a few pounds of equipment (usually because I'm carrying around other stuff), my RebelXT + the 28/2.8, for example, is about as light + small you can get for a Canon DSLR.

ok, i've read quite a few threads with people stuck with primes
instead of zoom lenses and i've actually had a few people suggesting
me to go with primes instead of zoom lenses also (ie. EF 35mm f1.4L
USM over the EF 16-35mm f2.8L II USM). so i was just wondering why?
i am planning on what lenses to buy and the answer to this question
may ultimately change my decision..

this might be a stupid question since i just started really looking
into lenses recently after my purchase of a 40D last week.

but yes, thanks!
