Re: better lens for 450D

I think getting the kit lens calibrated is the way to go.

I just bought a Sigma 18-50 2.8 ex macro as an upgrade to the kit lens. This lens is over twice the price of the kit lens. I did some testing the other day and as a result found a problem with the Sigma which is now being replaced. The testing reinforced to me that even though the kit lens is of cheap construction and build its image quality is very good . The Sigma is built better it has macro and the colours are more saturated but as far as sharpness the kit lens is no slouch. Now I think I have a very good copy of the kit and I got a bad copy of the Sigma but the replacement will prove that. I think if you want to really move up and make that big wow difference then you would need to go for the 17-40L and that here in Oz is five times the price of the kit.

I think you will be very happy with a well calibrated kit lens and used within its limits its simply great.
