I am using a 450/XSI and highly recommend liveview for macro focusing. I am also happy with the Canon 60 macro. The price was much lower than the 100. The working distance is not much shorter. In addition the 60 is great for portraits and some other uses while the 100 seems too long for portraits with a crop camera. Be sure to get the cable release and a sturdy tripod. You will also need to consider lighting. The least expensive option is the 430 flash with a diffuser/softbox and bracket mount. You might also want to consider a closeup filter for your macro lens. The filter will allow you more magnification than the standard 1:1.
