Hello,

I use Lightroom 1.4 and do not know how to go to version 2. Should I uninstall LR 1.4 first and then install version 2? But will I be able to import my catalog in version 2? What is the safest procedure?

Thank you.

I installed with version 1.4 installed, then later removed 1.4 after successful install of version 2. No problems so far.

I have not installed the release version of LR2, but the beta did not support the catalogs from LR 1. The DB was different.

The final version supports the catalogs/libraries from 1. . I did not have any problems converting....

By converting do you mean an import into the LR2 database? If so, is it one way so one needs to abandon LR 1 after installing LR2?

(1) This is the key part. Buy LR2.
(2) Install LR2
(3) Open LR2

When asked what Catalog you want to open, as with earlier versions, you can open a new one or open an existing one.

If you open an existing LR1.x catalog, LR2 converts it so it works with version2. It does not write over the 1.x catalog.

That's it.

LR2 won't ask for your LR2 serial number if you already have LR1.x installed on your machine. After you install LR2, you will still have 1.x installed. You can get rid of it or keep it.

That's interesting,

To add to that. It's not that you don't need it, of course. It's the the installer auto fills in your 1.x serial number for you. Saves you some typing.

That's unusual - Adobe says they are charging to update to LR V2:

"The estimated street price is £175 for new users with an upgrade price of £69 for registered users of qualifying Lightroom customers."

How did you manage to get it for no charge? What version of LR V1 did you have?

That's not what happened on my install. The install program asked for my new serial #, it then told me this was an upgrade license, and that I would need my 1.4 license. Then it searched the HD, found the old license and autoe entered it in the old license window. It was easy, but kind of surprising that it didn't recognize that 1.4 was already on the system, up front.

STOP Global Stasis! Change is good!

Now that you've judged the quality of my typing, take a look at my photos. . .

Gentlemen/Ladies:

i have a copy of LR 1 (since upgraded to whatever it is currently, maybe 1.4?). of course, the minor upgrades so far have been free of charge.

in reading this thread, i'm confused as to whether or not the new LR2 costs additional money or not? according to adobe's site, it costs US$99. in reading a few of the posts here, it sounds almost as though it does not cost anything.

may i kindly ask if the good folks here might clarify that issue?

thanks in advance!

I apologize if I caused any confusion.
Of course you have to pay for the upgrade.

What I intended to say was simply that LR recognizes that you have LR1.x installed and it auto fills in the old license. That's it. It saves you from having to type in the old serial number. That's all.

Yeh, I made a typo. Sorry. What I meant is it asks for the V2 license number and, if it's an upgrade version, it recognizes if you have 1.x installed and then auto fills in the v1 serial number.
