Hello

Sorry for the weird question but I cant seem to find the two different cameras here on this site and yet when I see pictures of them on other web sites they do seem to be different.

I have a 20D and I seem to have the upgrade bug :) so I have been reading about the 450D versus the 40D versus the XSi and I cant come up with a solid answer yet.

The 12 megs of the 450D/XSi does sound like a nice added feature but the more solid feel of the 40D sounds good to. I really don't care about the extra "fps" on the Continuous Drive as long it has some so that just might be the deciding factor, although I am still in the valley of confusion 8-)

could you explain to me why some sites has the camera with the 450D icon on it and some will have just a XSi icon on the camera? thanks

450D here in Australia, and I think Europe.
XSi in North America
Kiss and Tell, or something like that in Japan

The main reason behind the different names, Xsi, 450d and Kiss is that canon wants to price this camera differently in different markets. How does it get away with that? Well, the camera's warranty is only valid in the region you purchased it in. By giving the same camera a different name, canon is able to tell where in the world you bought your camera and provide warranty service accordingly.

I had to go through 3 Xsi bodies to get one that focused correctly. The 3rd one puts "Canon EOS Kiss Digital x2" in the EXIF info as the camera model. All 3 bodies came from one of the most reputable camera stores in Dallas, TX. I called Canon and they quickly admitted that there were mixups with shipments and some "Kiss x2" bodies ended up in the US and Europe and some 450Ds ended up in the US and Japan. Since the warranty card indicated US warranty and the serial number on the card matched the number on the camera and I have a receipt from a legitimate Canon dealer they said there is no issue with the camera showing the Japan name. They even said if I ever had to send it in for repair they could change the name to Xsi.

The Canon description had a lower case X but the EXIF information in all my pictures has an upper case X - "Canon EOS Kiss X2".

Makes some sense but the same effect could be had with serial numbers. Certain serials could be destined to certain markets. Would cause less confusion.

Its designed to allow consumers to be able to tell the difference as well as Canon. That way no one mistakenly buys a japan warrantied camera when they wanted to buy a USA warrantied one. You could also say its designed to confuse consumers so they are less able to compare prices across markets.
