Hey Jack,
Hi Keith,
Just saw the story on the news. Shoulda known you'd somehow BE
there.
yep, my usual day off events .... grab a bus to movie -- see something
happening and get off bus -- shoot some stuff and, of course, miss my
movie ;) But the weird thing is, this was a record for speedy shooting,
so to speak :o, My first shot (on the bus) was at 11:04am and my last shot
(of the guns on the ground) was at 11:11am :o Then it was back to the
bus stop to catch the next bus .... AND, it was the next bus :o :o

of course, i spent a few hours editing and contacting news organisations ;)

Cheers,

Jack

Ah well, things are never dull, are they? Turns out the guns
were legal but you have to wonder what kind of party they were going
to...

It's amazing what one can do when one doesn't know what one is doing :)

Your police seem to take life more seriously down there (for good reason, no doubt).

I caught these of an "anarchist" being arrested for climbing on the roof of the Prime Minister's office, pulling down the national flag and raising an "anarchist" flag. He was arrested when he came down off the roof and the police seemed to be having a good time. Take a look at the second policewoman from the left - she looks like she's having a blast.

Not very well taken, I am afraid. It happened very suddenly right beside me, I had my camera on manual as usual and had no time to increase the shutter speed. Just snapped away.

A funny side note: There were something like 30 thousand people in town celebrating independence day. Flags were flying all over the place, bands playing etc. As I walked away from the scene I heard a woman/girl mutter (no doubt a sympathiser): "There's no democracy in this country!" Conclusion: 30 thousand people gather to celebrate the national flag. One person wants another flag, and when the 30 thousand object "there is no democracy". Hmmm...

Anyway, here are the images. Not very good, but good for a laugh, maybe.

That's live shooting for sure!!!

But why did not you take a really close-up shot of the canines of the police dog? :-)

That said "something is rotten in the state of Denmark" when we have this kind of thing in Vancouver. That guy looks like a candidate to go to Afghanistan or Irak with all his heavy artillery. First I could have swear it has to be in the States....but Vancouver it is!!!!!!!

Cheers,

Funny... I have the same "Sweatshirt" that the "anarchist" is using... My mother bought it 15 years ago in Oaxaca, Mexico...

You are absolutely correct ... plus she is gorgeous, as well :D however,
it appears that your 'anarchist' looks a little camera shy ;)

I really like the photo's ... perhaps they look a little 'blue/cool' but
that is easily solved in PS :) Excellent photo's, regardless of how
they look (colourwise) :D

There's always one in every crowd ;(

I did that once .... kind of .... and really learned my lesson :o plus
the fact that he, the dog, was still in working mode and if I only had
the DA 300/4 ;D

You are, probably, not too far from the truth there Luc and here
is a close up of the Logo on his T-shirt:

Now that is scary :o

First I could
have swear it has to be in the States....but Vancouver it is!!!!!!!
I remember 10-12 years ago .... the Sun/Province would have run
5 or 6 pics in the front section(s) of the newspaper .. but now, maybe,
one or two pics :( That is because it is becoming too common place.

Sad but true :(

Cheers,

Jack

Thanks for the positive comments. Should have switched to a faster shutter speed, but was afraid of losing the moment.

Funny about blue/cool - that's how they look on my laptop but on the Samsung screen they look warmer and really just right. Have to play with them a bit more and calibrate the Samsung screen.

Top Class photojournalism, Jack; hardly surprising though. :-)

I have been thinking about going on a street nightshoot-prowl with you, downtown, haven't done that in ages, and it's also the summer, not so chilly these days either.

Hi Jonska,
Thanks for the positive comments. Should have switched to a faster
shutter speed, but was afraid of losing the moment.
You've said it all with the last seven(7) words in your above sentence :D
To paraphrase the late, great, Eddie Adams:

".... I would rather see a photo's with some flaws than see nothing ..."
not a verbatim quote but you get the idea :)

I find some pics that look great on the (camera's) LCD screen, look
so-so on my iBook screen but look great on a screen at work :o and
come out looking decent as a print ??????????

All part of the "Joy of Photography", I guess ;D

Cheers,

Jack
