got my REFURBISHED 1D Mk III today...

I just received my "factory demo" unit from Cameta Camera. It's basically a Canon refurbished model as well. Came packaged in a Canon refurbished box. $3300 with 1 year warranty. So far the camera is incredible. I'll have to wait till the rain clears out in the next few days to test it properly. Same situation as the others -- updated firmware, etc... Granted, the warranty is a store warranty (all the refurbs have store warranties) but for the same price as used, it's better than nothing!

I was bidding on that same camera. Congratulations!

Please let me know how it works out for you. Thanks,
Charles

I thought Cameta was an on-line store selling primarily (in fact, almost exclusively) Nikon gear. Does Cameta have a second business front?

Cameta has a HUGE ebay business as well as their store front. I've bought three or four lenses from the over the past three years (Minolta and Canon). They are the largest camera seller on ebay. Something like 270,000 feedbacks. I've never had any trouble with them. They always ship very fast and as described. My Mark III looked like it was absolutely brand new.

Thanks! If Cameta has a huge business (and I don't doubt for one minute what you are saying) then I wonder why they don't advertise Canon cameras on their web site?

thanks PeterLee for updating about Adorama dropping the refurb unit...

called them and they will give me the $200 credit... excellent!!

SCOOP HERE:

(for some who doesn't know yet)... there's a 3rd Party Dealer who buys the REFURB units from CANON and this 3rd Party Dealer sells these units to other sellers... one of them is ADORAMA...

for example PHOTOWORLD (not a CANON authorized dealer, for whatever reason, maybe it's so hard to become one)... are buying these units from this "3rd Party Dealer"...

bottom line... REFURB units ALL came from CANON... BUT still... i should have bought my unit from PHOTOWORLD for $3,000 (only because of AMAZON.com) because if PHOTOWORLD mess with you... AMAZON.com will back you up STRONG!!

Not really sure Joe. I checked and they are a Canon authorized dealer. It looks like their all about Nikon on their web site. Could be that's where the co-op money for the website comes from.

Bought mine from photoworld Seems to work okay still setting cfns. You are right newspaper man.. amazon will come back hard plus i use thier card to purchase for that reason.I talk to the manger on the phone frm pworld he was very helpful oh by the way i called twice and they answered the phone right away good sign ohio. they give 30 days on refurb instead of two weeks. Add mac before 30 days to $3000 you get 3ys warranty not bad.

great job!!

and really... so far i'm enjoying my REFURB unit!!

try kicking the sharpness (under picture style) all the way up to 5 - 7 and see what you like most... that's what i've been doing...

*****
i just love the SPOT Metering of this machine!! amazing!!!

*****

and i love the fact that you can customize the FPS burst speed (sometimes i just don't need 10 FPS! i just want 5, 6, 7, 8 to save disk space...) so i can download them faster!

enjoy your NEW (with extra TLC) mark III!!

pls do post some images soon...

thanks!!

took some pics late yesterday evening of kids running thru a sprinkler w/ 70-200/4. just hot & humid not sunny

all sensible cf.n enabled the day before.

the ai-servo tracks well and was not fooled by a 10-foot high sprinkler nor ball being kicked around.

AF point selection via the nub is perfect now on a 1D body... hands down easiest canon to operate yet. 1/2 pound or so lighter than the 1DmkII which really is a boat anchor in comparison. RAW files just a little smaller (MB) than the 5D ... 14-bit i assume is the reason?

if i can figure out how to embed JPGs into DPR from photoshop express i'd post a few shots w/ 100% crop.

1DmkII and 5D already on ebay now... very comfortable this will work fine and is a keeper. i must admit i wasted a bit of time reviewing 1:1 view of sequences (lighroom is slow generating those full res photos) due to all the mkIII discussion but that won't happen again. :)

i'm so glad for this great news!!

please share some of your shots... i can't wait to see some...

thanks a lot for sharing your experience!!

WE'll be wating...

maybe i'll sell my 40D & 20D & 10D... and get another REFURB mk III... from Photoworld...

go eBay!!!

FYI adorama down to $3199 now ;-)

BOTTOMLINE:
it's really worth buying the refurb unit...

i will buy another refurb 1d mk III for sure!

my 40d can't just keep up with the pro sport events... too slow and not a good high ISO performer at all...

i finally brought this to the test on Monday, July 21st US Open Series...
