Forum Eclipse: Should This Forum Be Only Technical?

What a hell-on-earth this world would be if there was no room for the minority. Frankly, I don't care what the majority votes for. If the minority isn't welcome, or is made to feel uncomfortable - this forum will become toast! Diversity is its strength.

I have a better idea:

Let's all take pictures, and let the forum take care of itself. :)

I am firmly opposed to nannyization-- It's pretty easy to read the subject lines, and determine if a subject is technical, or cutesy, or both. Occasionally, I wind up reading threads I have no interest in-- I just nod, smile, and go back to the top level of the forum. :)

So far, I'd say the resident nutters around here are doing a fine job at determining what kind of a forum they want. I'll grant you, seeing 4 pages of updated threads in the last 24 hours is a bit daunting, but it's an amazing amount of information, both artistic, technical, and silly.

The majority of people seem happy with that arrangement, which to me seems to be a perfectly democratic, if informal, resolution. :)

Let those who want a technical only board exercise their right not to read the "Dog with 3 balls" posts. ;)

First...this is not directed at your comments Inigo

...and please remember I have one thumb and four fingers to each of two hands!! LOL

I posted this tonight, because the last two times I posted something even a bit off topic...I got flamed by several members...mostly new members granted...

My "reaction" I guess it is a sign I need to pull back and spend more time on my own work...

I'm not mister stone feelings here...and not perfect either

...I get tired sometimes of seeing people come along who apparently just want to bash others...and stop them from having fun....THEY need to get a life!

I try to be patient and tolerent, but I guess I still have a ways to go when it comes to being flamed because I just want to share the joy and love of this great art form.

I did not create this forum nor the "magic" of it...I came along looking for solid technical help and I received a bowl full of joy, excitement, smiles and images of dressed appliances that I have to wipe from my mind before I go to bed at night...- thanks ergo! :)

I know what it means to come home and there is no one to say hello...how was your day? To some this forum and a few friends who have their own families are all we have when we come home to an empty apartment.

To some this forum is better than any college course they could take...better than being an apprentice...because they can "fit" this forum in with all the other things they have to do in life...

No this forum is not my life..

But yes many of the people here have become as important to me as any of my "in person" friends.

Thanks for listening...
sorry to cause a ruckus..

Put me in the magic column. I like to follow the techie threads to learn what I can but what I really like is to view other people's photos because I know what I like and what appeals to me. Some pics attract my attention immediately and some don't. I also enjoy the interaction that one see's going on between posters(the disagreements make me laugh sometimes). If the discussion were limited to strictly tech stuff, I doubt if I would check on this forum very often.

I know we have beat this issue to death in past months, but is it
just me or is the forum being eclipsed by people wanting just a
technical flow?

Is that what we want? I realize this is Phil's system... but at
221,000 message in over 28,000 thread this forum leads all other
forums in activity. This is in spite of the fact that with the
exception of the C720UZ there is nothing new under the sun here!
The hot cameras are the Canon D60, Nikon 5700, Nikon D100...and yet
this forum is the most active.

However I have had several comments to my posts that this forum
should be only for exchange of technical information and not "fun"
stuff.

Is that what everyone wants? or the majority? I would like to
know. If it is then I will quietly disappear and find the "magic"
somewhere else.

Do you want just the Techie stuff or the "Magic" too?

Would you vote by just putting in the subjet either:

Techie Only
or
Magic Too

I want the Magic which is mix of everthing...a little bit of
Spannie, a little bit of Sandman, a little bit of Ergo, a little
bit of Daniella etc...you know how the song goes... I want a little
bit of all...those brainy folks, artsy fartsy ones, funny ones,
serious ones, creative ones that come up with odd pods and homemade
telescopes...those into photographing birds, insects, nieces, kids,
baseball, mountains, waterfalls, bubblegum, barns, appliances,
bubbles (no not her!!), clouds, moons and sunsets...etc etc etc...

I vote: Magic Too

I vote magic too, but none "us" should be trying to "manage" the forum. It has and will continue to have its own life whether we are here or not. We can only contribute or not, and that in itself gives the forum a bend. If you want "magic", contribute "magic"; if not, don't. I do enjoy your always provacative topics, even if I don't always agree. Thanks Rich.

Stop worrying about all of this stuff and go back to positing ways to do stuff in PhotoShop.

Have fun doing it...
