D3 in a photogenic blast furnace

a number of pics from yesterday:

I had a wonderful experience, together with 15 members of a forum called Nikonpassion (the French equivalent of this forum), I have been able to visit a very photogenic industrial site, really full of dust (I am still cleaning my equipment to be sure)

A lot of D3's, D300's, quite a few 24-70's, a 200f2VR, D70's, D200's even a Hassy, a few oldies (F3, F4), a Canon 5D and a few others were present. We succeeded in not scaring the employees...

Here are a few I like:

  1. 1 I also love trains

  1. 2 I tried something mixing BW and color processing

  1. 3 in the blast furnace building

  1. 4 another one for train lovers... the metal in fusion is transported from one building to the other with those...

  1. 5 lots of rusty stuff to photograph

  1. 6 pipes everywhere (shot in almost complete darkness)

  1. 7 mood shot inside the building, again D3, almost always locked on ISO6400

  1. 8 taking a sample

  1. 9 the medium low part of the blast furnace where the reaction is taking place

since it looked a bit like a space ship, I tried some crazy processing #10

  1. 11 view from below

  1. 12 the hot bars (you could feel the heat from a distance)

  1. 13 photographers at work... but this does not give an idea of the actual dusty and dark atmosphere... the camera exposes to get a nice histogram - here ISO6400 with -2/3EV

  1. 14 and myself, shot with a Nikon by another participant

  1. 15 D3+28-75 2.8 ISO 3200 @75mm

  1. 16 D40x+70-200VR JPEG Basic

A slideshow for those who are interested:

Thanks a lot for watching
