Can someone tell this dummy what the little round clunky thing on the cord does and its purpose? Its a model C-7AU.

It's a Magnetic Ferrite clamp that allegedly keeps unwanted "noise"
out of the signal. It is also used to reduce RFI from your audio
signals. You see these on power cords these days, and in my
opinion, they don't do squat. If anything, they are a nuisance, and
get in the way.
