With HDR sequences one should be extra careful with camera movement.
I think it is best to set the camera to auto bracket -2 0 +2, put it
on a tripod or something equally sturdy, and use a remote shutter
release cable. Also i like to use mirror lock up, so I actually press
the shutter button 6 times, 3 times to lock the mirror up, and 3
times for each photo.

Of course, if the speed of the sequence is important, leave the
mirror lock up step, as it will add at least 3 seconds to the
sequence.

In short, yes, the XSi does give you HDR helping functions, what
especially the Nikon entry level DSLRs do not (D40, D40X, D60 have no
bracketing and no mirror lock up, the D80 has no mirror lock up but
has bracketing).

With the XTi, you can avoid having to press the shutter 6 times to bracket three shots when using MLU. If you also set it to self-timer mode, it will immediately lock up the mirror and count down 2 seconds before each shot; you can press the shutter again as soon as the previous shot is done. So the three bracketed shots can be taken in as little as 6 seconds with three presses of the shutter button. (Obviously, you will want to use a cable release or remote control!)
