D3 Dirty sensor/ Nikon Service experience

Hats off to Nikon New York for a great turn around and sensor cleaning. I had over 35 spots of what looked like oil all over the D3 sensor. I tried for HOURS cleaning the sensor with E2 and pec pads and swabs. I must have cleaned the sensor 25 times wirh NO luck in removing the dark black oil spots. I thought for sure my sensor was defective. Nikon service gets it, cleans the sensor and now its as good as new!?!?!?!??!?! what gives???? The only thing that I could think of is that I didnt press down hard enough?? I just dont get it........I couldnt make a dent in the spots and they wiped them all clean. Unless they did swap out the sensor and did it on the QT? I have been cleaning sensors with success since there were sensors.....this is baffling! Any thoughts??? Oh, and if you need service, find a guy named Jim Crawley. Great guy and knows his craft! : )
Peace, Dave
