I should have my camera Thursday. After ELEVEN days, today Ritz finally has my camera. I was buying full retail, $999 because I wanted to support these great sites. Sad, but they have no camera savvy, no customer skills,
and sometimes no cameras.

Today I called Sears and for $675 (Giftsplas went up...)they matched my price and the warranty is tons cheaper. They simply replace the camera.
Period. If they are correct, I have it by Thursday morning.

Just now Ritz called--they have my camera. 7 days return if I open no software-no restocking fee.

Sears...30 day return. Open anything. No restocking fee-he was shocked I even asked..

How does Ritz intend to stay in business? If you read these Ritz Management, you have a chance to be a brick and mortar empire, but you
need intelligent staff and some ddarn competitive service and pricing.

Hi Linda.

Just came home rather frustrated. Did not get my 707 yet. Best Buy don't match price, neither do CC....
What is Sears' warranty like ?

I have followed eBay auctions. Do all those 'happy buyers' not bother with warranties? how do they go about getting a warranty when purchasing a new camera in closed box online when it is not advertised with a warranty thrown in? Do most people not have warranty?
I would find that risky ? maybe I am wrong. I welcome input from the list.

$101 US dollars for 2 years from date of purchase. No repairs. Complete replacement if the camera...30 days to try it. No restock fee.

As Linda said, totally new camera replacement. The PPP price is actually 15% of whatever the sales price is, so the $101 for Linda is based on her PM price.

I myself will have to pay them a visit tomorrow as just today I found my camera has now developed DLSS, so I will be walking in with the current one in exchange for a new camera.

Greta,

Irregardless of whether you purchase Sears PPP warranty, they guarantee your satisfaction within the first 30 days (or your money back). So if you have ANY problems within 30 days you can exchange or get a refund. Also the cam is covered under Sony's warranty (I believe it's 6 mo's parts, you pay the labor).

Jimmy...

It "developed"? You didn't have DLS before? Or do I recall that you did and got it fixed (and now it's back?)

Either way, sorry to hear that, but glad you can resolve it easily...keep us posted.

Not everyone has been fortunate enough to get the PPP at a reduced price. Many have paid the full $150 (15% of the list $999). Even when phone ordering from Sears, they say $150 regardless of the PM price.

Actually, the Sears extended replacemnt warrenty is for 12 months on top of your MFg warrenty period. The 2 year figure has never been correct according to my research. I know the Sears web site says something differant (I checked two minutes ago).

All in all however it may be a good deal for certain purchasers

Better check this out, there have been posts here saying that Sony will not honor the Sony warranty on cameras purchased from Sears...

John,

I have checked it out. Sony's warranty is valid on items bought at Sears (as well as just about every other retailer in the US). Thank Jimmy for the correction ( 1 yr vs 6mo).

Hi Guys,

All your comments have been a great comfort, and I am off to Sears with my printout for the 707 for $629. That will be fine, as the previous price is a bit 'older' already....:-)

I enquired, and yes, they match online price, and the warranty is of their origianal price ($999) - oh well, cannot have it all! it would be nice though hehe. I will purchase 128 mem stick from Best Buy and also the floppy reader. Has anybody got feedback on the floppy ready ?

I held the 707 in my hand yesterday at CC - either cam is tiny or my hands are large.....:-) wow.....and I found it is necessity to use left hand as well ? am I odd here ??????
thanks again

Nope, thats the design they went after. Sony want you to use your left hand to steady the camera on the lens barrel, freeing your right hand to do whatever camera settings you need to do.
