Re: *Cataloging photos with ThumbsPlus*

I've been using ThumbsPlus for almost 3 years (since I got my first digital camera) and I love it. One thing I especially like is the galleries feature. In addition to tagging photos with keywords, you can also add them to galleries. This still leaves them in their physical location on the disk, but is another way of categorizing your shots. You can view one of these galleries and see all of a particular kind of picture without even searching. I have sunsets, flowers, zoo animals, infrared, etc. You could use these galleries to create "compilation" CDs also (like one CD full of sunsets, etc.). Another thing that the latest version allows you to do is "tag" images, either from the thumbnail view, from a slideshow (which is really cool), and the tagged images will then be placed in a "Tagged" gallery. I find this is a good way to easily select images from my latest download to be resized, sharpened, and copied to some other location for web page creation.

There are actually a lot of neat features in this program (beyond file cataloging) and sometimes it takes a bit of digging or experimenting to find them.

One thing I have done is to create 2 thumbs plus databases -- one for the files that reside on my hard drive and a second for cataloging "off-line" CDs.

Looking forward to your next batch of photos!
