The hole Olympus must fill

The lack fast mid primes is only a partial shortcoming. Sigma and Leica make them for 4/3rds.

But the lack of a 300mm f4.0 is annoying. This lens would be a major seller at $1000-$1300, it would give Olympus another edge on the competition because of the 600mm effective reach and it would provide the 99% of us with something that doesn't cost another $4000 for one stop's worth of gain. As for alternatives, some of us use the old 300mm f4.5 OM lens, which isn't bad, but no AF and like all or most old lenses, colour error and residual spherical aberration wide open.

The cheap 70-300mm zoom is one stop too slow at 300mm and most people who buy it likely never much use the short end anyway. A real 300mm needs supersonic motors too.
