When I first tried my 450D I immediately noticed that it takes much more force to put a lens on (or take it off) than on my previous DRebel/300D. I wonder whether that is normal. It may just be that after 4 years of use the fit becomes looser, but I do not remember it being so tight even when my DRebel was new.

I don't think the required force is enough to damage anything, but I sure hope it won't stay this tight. How much force to other users need compared to their "old" camera?

Hi,
I confirm I have the same feeling, coming from a 350D that I still own.

Now that I am being used to the 450D, I find the mount on the 350D is kind of "loose" :)

I've had lenses that are looser or tighter. They eventually loosen up. If you like, you can lightly lubricate the lens mount. The oil from your skin (especially nose) should be enough and won't run. Just scratch where your nose meets your cheek. Don't do it where you can be seen, they'll think you are mining for gold.

I also have found that this is the case. My 18-55 IS kit fits smoothly as does my 50mm 1.8 lens. However, my Sigma 18-200 OS is noticably 'tighter'. Not to the point of having to force it, but it definitely requires a bit more twist pressure.

These two are plastic mount. Say what you like about plastic mounts, but they do have less friction sliding against the metal camera mount than metal-on-metal.

I noticed that my lens was much easier to attach if I removed the black cap from the back of it!!! plus that "underexposure problem" went away... :)
