Are we fooling ourselves about IQ?

Many people won't use a P&S because:

1 Bad IQ (not theirs - the camera's). :> )
2 IQ not equal to my 5D or 20D or ......

They really don't bother to say IQ of what? A 4x6? An 8x10? 100 % viewing on an LCD? 200%? A Proshow slide show (my favorite use along with 4x6).

Many of us go out assuming we are always on a professional shoot. If I take my P&S, I may miss the shot of a lifetime. D'oh! Not!

Let's be realistic about how we plan to use our images. If it's for professional reasons, use the best you have, otherwise, let's use what's appropriate. If you need fast focus or low light capability, then don't use a P&S! Otherwise, you may just find the P&S are very enjoyable to use. They may even provide you with a little bit of a challenge. I find that challenge (when there is one) to be enjoyable.

So, I'd really like to hear your opinion on this. Both for and against. Just be gentle. :> )
