$1000 Budget for lens

17-55 f2.8 IS Too long Too Short

I'm no expert at architecture and landscape photography but I think you'll find 17mm too long for interiors and some cityscapes. In contrast you'll find 55mm too short for compressed landscapes and some stitched panos. I think the best answer for the OP is to cover as much FL as possible from 10-100mm with quality glass. Doing this with $1000 is the problem.

For me... I shoot people primarily and I find the 18-55mm range to be my least favorite. IQ, build or AF is not the issue here. All those things on the kit lens are good enough. My 24-70mm zoom is by far my favorite because it covers the range I need for portraits. On rare occasions I need something wide but the 18mm is just too darn long. I'd gladly trade the kit zoom lens for something much wider.
