This is the set up I am looking at -

For now I will do single row panos. I wonder how sturdy the set up would be for multi-row panos. I think for single rows the set up will be sturdy enough.

We will be going back to Hawaii in the fall and I especially am interested in doing some pano work on the big Maui volcano (I believe it is called Haleakea). I think the RRS set up will be good for hiking and vacations, it seems like something I can set up fairly fast. There are many places in the southwest suitable for pano work, at least in my mind (I am sure we can find reasons to do panos everywhere as you have proven!).

I am excited about giving this a try. Probably for hiking I will take my 5D, a 17-40, a 24-105, and I am thinking of getting a 50mm. I am also debating about taking my 100-400, and of course this will add some weight.
