Hi,

I have kind of a problem with my D3 buffer indicator (C-Rem on top LCD and in the view finder).

I just don't get a number of shoots as high as it says in the manual.

For example: in DX with Small size S, basic Jpeg, auto iso off, noise reduction off, d-lighting off...off I only get 50 shoots (it says 130 in the manual pg 423,424,425)
In Large Jpeg fine & everything off i get only 24
In large Jpeg fine and everything on i get only 6!!!

Did any of you ever get the indication "99" in the C-rem indicator as it is describe on the manual pg88?

Do you get the same buffer space or am I doing something wrong?

Thanks for your answers.

PS: Changing CF card doesn't change anything (lexar 2G 133 ou Lexar 4G 300)

You never will. The R indicator shows the physical status of the memory buffer, but not the likely status. Try it, run a burst and watch as the count goes r39, r38, r38, r38, r37 r37, r36, r36, r36, etc. The numbers in the manual and marketing materials on all Nikon cameras are "effective buffer."

Depends on settings but you got the most out of it

Hey Djim,

no, I get the same numbers you get using a Sandisk 4G Ducatti card. However, try to fill up your buffer and tell us how many shots you actually get.
Maybe this is a good and actual test for DarthVaderII.

Thanks for those answers.

I perfectly agree with the fact that the buffer goes 37 38 36 36 36 36 35 and so on.

If I undrestand the first answer right, the numbers Nikon gives is the total number of shots you get before the buffer fills? right?
So it depends a bit on the memory car speed?
And so I get about the numbers nikon gives in the chart on pg 423 right column.

If all that is right then I am a happy D3 user.

Once again thank you all.

the buffer is the buffer period.

How fast the buffer will be empty and get refill depends on speed of the memory card and the camera internal speed limits to transfer to the memory card.

I see 15 pics c-rem with Raw and Jpg at lower ISO (800). Higher ISO 13.
Camera stops firing after 16 pics.

Using jpeg I see c-rem 33 (ISO 800) and camera stops firing after about 100 pics. Card Extrerme III / 8 MB.

There is still one thing I don't get it's the use off the "R99" indication cf pg 88, when you have enough place in the buffer for more than 100 shots.

Because no matter how you set up the D3 you never get such an indication?

Does anyone manage to get the R99 indication? What are your setting when you do so?

Bye
